- They journeyed through the forest,
- And as night drew fast around them
- They came as far as the uplands of Ceredigiawn.
- When they saw the hue of fair dawn,
- And the sun coming through the mists,
- They set out over high hill and valley
- Till they came to Gwynedd, to Arllechwoedd,
- And a sty was made there for the swine there.
- They came to Math Hen at Caer Dathyl,
- Wher there was a mustering in defence,
- For Pryderi had raised a force in pursuit of them.
- And lo, they could hear the trumpets,
- And a gathering throughout the land.
- They too equipped themselves and went forth.
- Then that night Gilvaethwy returned to Caer Dathyl,
- And Gilvaethwy and Aranrhod daughter of Don
- Went to sleep together in MathÕs own bed;
- And the maidens kept away in fear of such a thing.
